Carriacou sloop boats were originally designed for inter-island trade and transport, carrying cargo such as rum, sugar, spices, and fish. They were also fast and agile, able to outrun patrol boats and smuggle contraband. Carriacou sloop boats are characterized by their sleek and elegant lines, their single mast and fore-and-aft rig, and their simple and functional construction.
They are made of local hardwoods, such as greenheart and white cedar, and fastened with bronze nails and cotton twine. They are built on the beach, following a half-hull scale model, and launched with the help of the whole community.

Margeta
Margeta is a Carriacou sloop boat that was built in 2019 by Calvert Compton, one of the last master boat builders of Carriacou. Margeta is a 36-foot sloop that has a classic and charming design, a single mast and a fore-and-aft rig, and a simple and functional construction. Margeta is made of local hardwoods, such as greenheart and white cedar, and fastened with bronze nails and cotton twine.
Margeta has a cozy and rustic cabin, a small galley, and a basic navigation system. Margeta can accommodate up to four guests and two crew members, and offers sailing charters to the islands of Grenada and the Grenadines. Margeta is a sturdy and reliable sloop that can sail in various waters and conditions, and is ideal for enjoying the natural beauty and tranquility of the Caribbean.
Margeta is also a proud participant of the annual West Indies Regatta and the Carriacou Regatta, where it competes with other traditional wooden boats from different islands. Margeta is not only a sailing vessel, but also a symbol of culture and identity for the people of Carriacou. Margeta is a Carriacou sloop boat that combines tradition, charm, and simplicity.
